IPY Data Sets Available Through URSA
The Alaska Satellite Facility has a rich archive of RADARSAT-1 data of polar regions. To facilitate research by the scientific community for IPY, select RADARSAT-1 datasets have been made freely available through a collaborative effort between the Canadian Space Agency, NASA, and the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
Currently available datasets are:
Greenland Level 0 (September 2000 - January 2001)
Greenland Level 1 (September 2000 - January 2001)
Antarctica (September 1, 1997 - October 31, 1997)
Toolik Station (October 2004 - December 2006)
Kamchatka (December 1999 - January 2000)
We will continue to add to the IPY datasets to provide comprehensive coverage during this exciting international research campaign. Future data sets may include:
Sea Ice Min & Max snapshots (September - March of 2003-2004, 2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2006-2007)
Arctic Super-sites (1996 - Current)
Great Slave Lake (1996 - Current)
reat Bear (1996 - Current)
Northwest Territories
Mackenzie Delta (1996 - Current)
Axel Heiberg (September 2000 - February 2001)
The data is available to download through the URSA interface (https://ursa.asfdaac.alaska.edu/cgi-bin/login/). Before you can download data, please fill out an IPY data use agreement (http://www.asf.alaska.edu/ipy/agreement).
Our goal is to continue to make these data available beyond the current IPY to a new generation of researchers interested in studying the Arctic and Antarctic.
