The Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks extends its heartfelt congratulations to NASA and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on the successful launch of the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite. Launched Wednesday, July 30, 2025, aboard ISRO’s GSLV-F16 rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, India, NISAR marks a significant milestone in international collaboration for Earth observation.

ASF is honored to serve as the official data center for NISAR, facilitating the distribution of its valuable data to researchers and decision-makers worldwide. This role underscores ASF’s commitment to supporting global efforts in understanding our planet and disaster response.

“We all held our breath during the launch—it was such an exciting and unforgettable moment. Seeing NISAR launch successfully was a tremendous relief and a huge milestone. Congratulations to ISRO on a flawless launch, and to the teams at JPL and NASA for getting us to this point. ASF is proud to take the baton once data starts flowing, and we’re eager to help unlock everything NISAR will teach us about our planet,” said Wade Albright, Director of the Alaska Satellite Facility.
