The Jupyter Notebook environment is easy to launch in any web browser for interactive data exploration. Notebooks are written in a combination of executable Python code and markdown formatting, including LaTeX-style mathematical equations. They provide an excellent basis for collaborative and repeatable data analysis.
OpenSARlab is a service developed at ASF that uses Jupyter Notebooks and provides fully configured, persistent, cloud-based research and teaching environments. Multiple users can have access to identical computing environments, containing the same software, running on the same hardware. This allows a great opportunity for research collaboration and teaching.
While OpenSARlab was designed with SAR data science in mind, it is not limited to this field. Any group development scenario involving large datasets and/or the need for complicated development environments can benefit from working in an OpenSARlab deployment.
